Why Super Eagles’ victory over Cameroon didn’t surprise me – Yarma

As reactions continue to trail the Super Eagles convincing victory over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’ Ivoire, a former chairman of the Gombe State Sports Commission, Malam Farouk Yarma, has said the victory didn’t come to him as a surprise because he never doubted the team’s capacity to deliver.

On Saturday, January 27, the three-time African champions battered the Lions of Cameroon 2-0 in the Round of 16 to set up Friday’s quarter-final clash with Angola.

Speaking to Daily Trust Sunday, the former Commissioner for Youth Empowerment in Gombe State congratulated the Super Eagles and urged them to go all the way to the finals.

He said having been close to the team, he knows how talented the players are and what they can do when the chips are down.

“Even before the kick of the ball, I knew it was going to be a difficult match but I never doubted the Super Eagles’ ability to win.

“So, the victory didn’t come to me as a surprise. I am tempted to say I saw it coming because the Super Eagles are improving with every game.

“In three matches they conceded only one goal which means they are good defensively. I am happy that they showed the same discipline against Cameroon,” said Yarma.

The proprietor of FC Yarmalight, therefore, said if the Super Eagles will maintain the same fighting spirit against future opponents, they will return home with their fourth AFCON title.
