The Chairman of the FCT Football Association (FCT FA), Adam Mouktar Mohammed, has blamed the recent poor performances of Nigeria’s national teams on the low quality of the football leagues in the country.
According to him, the dearth of talents as well as near absence of professional football leagues has direct effect on national teams’ performances.
“Beyond the NFF and national team players and call ups, we have a dearth of talent coming through nationwide. We have seen a sharp decline in the quality of players and quality of the league, which has a direct effect on National team performance,” he said.
Mouktar, a one-time NFF president candidate stated further that the Nigerian football ecosystem is in a state of emergency while berating the federation’s technical department.

“We are currently in a very dire situation in terms of our football results, it’s been tough. Some say we are in a state of emergency. A lot of things in the football technical department are wrong. This has been the case for a number of years. We need to reorganise a lot and structural changes must be made.
“We need as a matter of fact get the technical committee up and running and it must be very strict on Key Performance indicators. Coaches must be vetted properly and remuneration must be tied to results,” he said.
Mohammed also bemoaned the failure of the Olympic Eagles to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Paris.
“The devastating loss in Guinea of the Olympic Eagles has resulted in Nigeria missing out on the next Olympics in Paris. A whole generation of players have lost the chance to shine on the global stage,” he stated.
