One of the leading players in renewable energy development in Nigeria, JRB Solar Investments Limited says it is high time to integrate students into Nigeria’s renewable energy infrastructure as part of efforts to drive clean energy.

Managing Director of the JRB Solar Investments who was represented by the head corporate communications, Theophilus Enemali made the disclosure over the weekend in Abuja at the grand finale of the renewable energy contest for FCT schools organized by the Firm.

Speaking at the event, Enemali said “The event is targeted at creating awareness on how to develop clean energy through innovation by involving young Nigerians in secondary schools as many properties and buildings now are moving to a more cleaner energy

“The competition is targeted at grooming young minds on the need to key into infrastructure development in the renewable energy sector which is why prizes has also been designated to different categories of winners.

“The test run has started with the FCT and subsequently will be followed by a national competition which will draw participants from all the states,” he explained.

Also speaking, the head of solar unit, Engr. Prince Bernard noted that Nigeria currently has a 427gigawatts solar potential of which barely 1 per cent has been used

He added that “As the construction sector is gradually going green, renewable energy should be a priority and not an alternative and there is a need for younger generation to be trained so they can also be part of the drive for clean energy in the property and construction sector,” he added

Speaking, the overall winner of the contest, a 12 year old student of Premier International School Abuja, Oluwademilade Falade said the contest was a rigorous one and has exposed contestants on the renewable energy world

She added that “The contest has no doubt improved her knowledge and skills on renewable energy and how it is applicable in the property sector,”
