A former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Prof Kolapo Olusola, has asked critical stakeholders in the state to reach a consensus that power should move to Ekiti South in the next governorship election.
Prof Olusola stated this yesterday in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, while speaking on the topic: “The Development of Ekiti Past, Present and the Way Forward”, at a symposium organised by a group called PDP Peace Movement.
He argued that since the return of democracy in 1999 after many years of military rule, Ekiti South had never produced governor of the state, adding that there was need for fairness to the zone in the 2022 poll.
Olusola expressed confidence that all the political gladiators and stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former governors of the state, Ayo Fayose and Segun Oni, as well as Senator Biodun Olujimi, would soon meet to deliberate on the issue.
He also said he would contest next year’s governorship election in the state for a second time even if Fayose, his former principal, did not support him.
Fayose, who supported Olusola to become the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2018 governorship election has endorsed the PDP state Chairman, Hon Bisi Kolawole, for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2022 poll.
Fayose said, “In 2018, he supported me to be the governorship candidate. But this time, he has made another choice. However, as he has the right to support another aspirant, I have nothing against that, I have the right to make my own choice and contest.”
