Special Adviser to Borno State governor on Trade and Investment, Barr Bashir Maidugu, has asked the top echelon of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the party’s chairmanship slot to the North East region.
Maidugu, a chieftain of the APC told Daily Trust in a telephone interview yesterday that the North East had been marginalised in the political equation of the country and should be given a chance by the party for the position of chairman.

“The North East has been truly marginalised in the affairs of Nigerian politics since the days of the SDP. In all honesty, politics is about give and take; it is about understanding. It is about interest, it is about nation-building.
“The North East looking at the position we are in right now and the loyalty we have paid to the APC, I think it will only be fair if the zone is carried along.
“In that light, I will suggest that the APC chairmanship position should be zoned to the North East because it is a safe zone for the party and the people will have a sense of belonging and will appreciate the fact that the party appreciates them.
“The issue of who is the right person to be the national chairman should be left to the stakeholders of the party to decide,” he said.
