Why Nigeria needs indigenous political system – Chinese envoy

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Cui Jianchun, has stressed the need for Nigeria to have an indigenous political system to develop the country.

Jianchun spoke yesterday at a symposium jointly organised by the Chinese Embassy and Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) in Abuja.

He said the system should break a new ground that would address political challenges in the country.

Jianchun said rather than compete for power, political parties in Nigeria should cooperate for national development.

He noted that China has opposition parties, but they cooperate with the ruling CPC and advise it on ways to move the country forward.

“This system works in the Chinese political system,” he said.

The National Chairman of IPAC, Yabagi Sani, said the aggressive path that the Chinese party took to transform the Asian country and actualise its dream should be emulated by political parties in Nigeria.

Earlier, the National Secretary of the ruling APC, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who was represented by his deputy, agreed with the ambassador that Nigeria needs its own indigenous political system to deal with peculiar challenges facing the nation.

He said just like the CPC in China, Nigeria under the APC administration has prioritised the fight against corruption.

He also called for more collaboration and understanding with China to deepen the political ties between the two countries.
