Ongoing repairs at the Chambers of House of Representatives and the forthcoming Edo State Governorship election are the major reasons the National Assembly shifted its resumption date, Daily Trust has gathered.
However, a reliable source, who is in a position to know, confided in Daily Trust on telephone on Saturday that repairs at the House of Representatives Chambers was the main reason for the shift in the date of resumption.

“There is an ongoing repair going on at the Chambers of the House of Representatives which cannot be completed before the earlier scheduled date of September 15th.
“That is the main reason.
“The repairs are ongoing.
“I don’t know of the Senate Chambers, but the House Chambers is undergoing repairs. That is the fact,” he said.
The NASS management official, however, dismissed insinuations that the Edo election was part of the reasons for the shift.
The National Assembly had, earlier on Saturday, disclosed that it has shifted its date of resumption to Tuesday September 29th, 2020.
The House earlier slated the resumption for Tuesday September 15th.
The statement read in part: “This is to inform all distinguished Senators and Honourable members of the National Assembly that the resumption of Plenary sessions earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 15th September 2020 is hereby rescheduled for Tuesday 29th September 2020.
“We regret any inconveniences caused by this change of date”.
The decision was conveyed in a statement issued by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Ojo Olatunde Amos.
However, when contacted for his comment on the shift on the date, the House spokesperson, Benjamin Kalu directed our reporter to contact the office of the Clerk to the National Assembly, who made the announcement, for details.
“Find out from the CNA who made the announcement,” he said.
