Media organisations in the country must be regulated to curb excesses, veteran broadcaster, Dr. Tom Adaba, has said.

Dr. Adaba, who spoke at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), said new media should be regulated like the broadcast sector by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

“The problem with the new media at the moment is the absence of regulations. In China they have blocked it off, but we are a democracy. That is why, whenever I have the opportunity, I advise them to be very cautious about the use of the new media. It could be very dangerous; it could set the country ablaze with just a few lines”, he said.

Dr. Adaba also lamented that broadcast stations in the country are not paying enough attention to training.
