Why Manchester United may pull out of deal for £60m star

Manchester United have been heavily linked with Bruno Fernandes this month but club officials are reportedly ‘concerned’ that Sporting Lisbon’s £60m asking price is high.

According to the Daily Express, they are worried about making another high-profile January mistake like the one which saw Alexis Sanchez make the move to Old Trafford in 2018.

Sanchez signed for United in a deal which saw his wages jump to a massive £500,000-per-week but the Chilean has only netted five goals for the Red Devils before being shipped out on loan to Inter Milan in the summer.

As a result, club chiefs remain wary of paying big money mid-season but the report also states that Fernandes is close to joining United, regardless of their Sanchez concerns.

Journalist Nicolo Schira had claimed the Portuguese international has agreed a five-year contract worth £98k per week.
