Why I’m romancing with APC – Sen. Kawu

The Senator representing Kano South, Sulaiman Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, has revealed that the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, was the one who initiated the relationship between them and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sumaila was reacting to how Kwankwasiyya followers have been criticising and accusing him of having ties with APC members alleging moves to leave the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

In a viral video, the Senator stated that regarding Abba Gida Gida’s gubernatorial seat, they went everywhere possible seeking justice and that’s the beginning of their romance with the APC.

Daily Trust reports that at the heat of the Elections Tribunal cases, which later went to Appeal Court and finally to the Supreme Court, there was intense tension in Kano and beyond over the fate of the NNPP.

Speaking, Kawu said in a bid to find a way out, Kwankwaso summoned them (the federal lawmakers) and urged them to unite in confronting anyone necessary to secure the Kano governor’s seat.

“Leader Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso called us to his house. He addressed us as a leader speaking to his followers, emphasising that we must come together as one and go wherever we need to ensure that the Abba Kabir Yusuf’s mandate as Kano governor is not taken away,” said Senator Kawu.

Senator Kawu Sumaila added, “Myself, Abdullahi Sani Rogo, and Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa stood up and pointed out the issues with getting involved in the matter, but he insisted we proceed with his directives. He then provided reasons and evidence that convinced us to follow through with what he suggested.

“I agree that I now have a relationship with the APC but God is watching, the people responsible for my romance with the APC are the NNPP and Kano State government. We wanted to defends ourselves but he refused. I personally wanted to talk and he insisted no.

“Of course we lobbied and begged wherever possible. People have been calling us to go out and intervene, to make sure that justice was done. That issue is what took us to them and I am not regretting it because I know the election was held and we made sure justice was done.

“Secondly, they know things that have been happening, I was not in support because we had an agreement. When you are in agreement with whoever, you must fulfil it.”

However, he clarified that, to his knowledge, the NNPP did not plan any electoral fraud during the 2023 general elections, as he was actively involved in everything related to the campaign.
