Why I want to be a senator – Tallen

A former Deputy Governor of Plateau state, Pauline Tallen said she wanted to be a Senator in order fill the quota of women participation and involvement in Nigerian politics.

Tallen also said she is aspiring to be a senator not for her personal gain but to satisfy the interest of the people of Plateau Southern senatorial district.

Tallen, a former Minister of Science and Technology under Obasanjo and former Deputy Governor of Jonah Jang from 2007 to 2011 is aspiring to represent Plateau South senatorial District under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tallen gave her reason for the aspiration when leadership of Conference of Plateau Independent Publishers (CPIP), paid her a visit in her residence in Jos.

She said, “My decision to contest the senate seat is not to satisfy my personal interest or to satisfy the interest of the people of Shendam but the interest of Southern Zone.
“You know me well not to be a tribalist. I don’t treat people base on sentiments. I believe in fairness to all. These and many other issues have prompted me to contest to ensure that Southern Zone gets better representation.”

She said, “Another issue that prompted my decision was the need to fill the mandatory quota for women participation in politics as resolved in the Beijing declaration that has been adopted in many African governments,”

Tallen however, said it was unfortunate that while the involvement of women in politics and their identification in electoral process in other African countries has been enormous and encouraging, the case of Nigeria was different as they have been neglected stressing that it was shameful.
