Why I trekked 460km to visit Gov Ododo in Kogi – Niger resident

A young man identified as Mustapha Muhammed Kontagora has said he trekked for 460km from Kontagora in Niger state to meet Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi state for standing by his family at the heat of overwhelming challenges.

Muhammed disclosed this in Lokoja, in the state capital, saying, the excitement of the drive appears waning for his inability to see the governor after three weeks in Lokoja.

He described governor Ododo as one of such persons in the society with milk of human kindness, for sharing the burden of his family with him while staying at Kontagora years ago.

“For showing my family the essence of humanity , I vowed to trek from Kontagora, Niger state to Lokoja, in Kogi to see him if he wins election and to appreciate what he did for me and my family while in the town.

“I left Kontagora on 11th January, arriving Lokoja on 21st , spent 11 days and ten nights on the road to make good my vow to a person I knew seventeen years ago “, he said .

He added that it was while on the road from Kontagora to Lokoja, he discovered more of the impact of the then Ododo on the people in the course of his journey of life.

“An army officer who claimed his part crossed with Ododo in his career gave me N5,000 at a road block between Kontagora-Minna after I had introduced myself and mission to him”, he said .

Muhammed said though the trekking had inflicted him with health challenge, his pains remains his inability to see the governor since he arrived Lokoja on 21st January.

He claimed to have been accorded a rousing welcome to Lokoja by officials of the government, including Lokoja Local government chairman. Hon. Abdullahi Adamu, Commissioner of water Resources, Eng. Yahaya Faruk, local government secretary and host of others .

Muhammed who commended the Lokoja council chairman for taken care of his welfare for weeks, especially, feeding and accommodation said he is now footing his bills since Saturday 9th February when he was told to go back home, until the governor is ready to see him.

While Muhammed claimed to have spent three days in the hospital due to complication, resulting from the 11 -day trekking episode, he commended the management of the hospital for treating him free-of-charge.

Meanwhile, Muhammed whose foot has developed shore, with great pain hoped to hold on in the capital city, Lokoja to see the governor before he returns home.
