A Kano-based Islamic scholar, Dr Sani Umar Rijiyar-lemo has said that he translated Qur’an Tafsir (exegesis) into Hausa language for proper understanding of the meaning among students, researchers and others who read the Holy book in the language.
The cleric, in an interview with Daily Trust, said “What we have is translation (of Qur’an in Hausa) not explanation of its meaning. There is the need for in-depth explanation to guide students and researchers.”
“I have written several books but I consider this Tafsir as the most important publication in my life because Qur’an is the supreme source of Islamic knowledge,” Umar said of the six-volume publication.
The Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, lauded the giant stride of the scholar, saying the Tafsir would help towards promoting the gospel of peace and propagation of Islamic tenets.
The monarch, who made the commendation when he was presented with a copy of the Tafsir, tittled “Fayyataccen Bayani Na Ma’anoni Da Shiriyar Alkurani” by Dr Ibrahim Umar Dasina, said that the Tafsir would help Hausa speakers understand Qur’anic verses and the explanation of their meaning.
He therefore called on wealthy individuals and groups to sponsor the publication and distribution of the work for the benefit of the people, especially students.
