Kashim later came to Abuja to try his luck where he thought things could be easier, but he was surprised that it is not, as he still could not get a white-collar job. But while he was still struggling to make ends meet, his parents pressurised him to marry, and he couldn’t say no. “After I got married, still without a job, I decided to take what is available and became a taxi driver.”

Though the taxi he drives put helps to put food on his table, he said he is not always happy whenever he reflects back on his life. “Sometimes when I come back home, I cry when I remember some insults I receive from passengers,” Kashim said.

Kashim says government has propounded problems for people like him, by not creating more jobs. “Many young people are into driving taxis, not because they did not go to school or because it pays well, but because they have no choice.”
