The former President of the Para Powerlifting Federation of Nigeria, Ms Queen Idris has stated she no longer wants to head the federation because of interference from highly placed officials and interested parties.

Her resignation is coming on the heels of the closing ceremony of the 2020 Para Powerlifting World Championship which ended on Thursday February 7, 2020 at the International Conference Centre Abuja.

”I am tired of all these undue interference and intimidation. I tried my best to improve the welfare and the brand of Para Power-lifting in this country.

“My results can speak for me. I will make an official statement soon but for now, I, Queen Idris do voluntarily step down as the President of the Para Powerlifting Federation of Nigeria.

“I have no regrets whatsoever because I know that what lies ahead is better than what we are seeing now” Ms Idris said.

Prior to the kickoff of the competition, Daily Trust reported that Queen had presented a team regarded as “Unstoppable” which had 50 athletes while the ministry of youth and sports development presented a team of 30 athletes.

Meanwhile, Nigeria emerged winner of the World Cup with Egypt and Ghana trailing behind in that order.

Nigeria has the highest points at 72 points. With 13 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals. Egypt is second and Brazil in third place out of 21 countries that participated. Egypt clinched 3 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze. Brazil got 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

The Para Powerlifting World Cup now moves to the city of Manchester from February 20 to 23 before moving to Thailand on February 24 to 26 and will end in Bogotá, Colombia in March.
