Popular Nigerian skit maker, Isaac Aloma, also known as ZicSaloma, has explained why he chooses to focus on skit making instead of his career as a lecturer at the Kaduna Polytechnic.
In a recent podcast interview with actress Iyabo Ojo, he stated that he was determined to succeed, emphasizing that he began his master’s study during his youth service.
He added that after his youth service, he was employed as a lecturer at Kadpoly.
He recalled that even while lecturing, he was participating in singing competitions and even appeared on an episode of The Voice Nigeria.
He admitted that his venture into skit making was “unplanned,” and that he struggled with it for three years before gaining traction.
“I started making skits unplanned. I didn’t take it seriously, but it was getting traction. Initially, I posted my skits on Facebook, and my Facebook friends seemed to enjoy them.
“They pushed me to accomplish more. I simply kept doing it. It was something I did for around three years. My fan base was not growing, but those who liked it liked it.
“Then, from the time I joined Tiktok until the lockdown period, my contents began to fly organically.
“At one point, I told my boss I was quitting my lecturing job, and she was like, ‘Are you sure you know what you’re doing?
“I’m done lecturing. How much is the lecturer’s salary? [laughs]”
He stated that even after he left lecturing, he was not successful yet.
