Why I establish Jigawa state university – Lamido

Lamido made the statement when he laid the foundation for the senate building of the university in Kafin-Hausa.
He said as at 2010 only 26 percent of qualified candidates from Jigawa were able to get admission into universities in Nigeria, adding that less than 20 percent of qualified prospective students gain admission in Nigeria.
The Jigawa State governor said that his vision for the university is to produce job creators not job seekers, adding that the university will go a long way to address the manpower need of the state.
In his remark, the Jigawa state commissioner for education, Professor Haruna Wakili said the state executive council approved the establishment of the university in 2013. According to him the ivory towers will be IT driven adding that the academic brief provided that the university should start in 2013-2014 session with a 5-year development plan to mature in 2032/2033.
He said the university would take off in September with three faculties, nine departments and 15 programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdullahji Ribadu thanked the governor for establishing a first class university in Dutse, saying the people of the state and Nigeria will benefit from the university.
