Why G-5 govs can’t sway election victory for Tinubu – APC ex-spokesman

A former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, has said the party would not trust the aggrieved G-5 governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if they decide to join the ruling party to work for its victory in the forthcoming polls.

In an interview with newsmen Friday in Abuja, Nabena, a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the APC, described the governors as confused, handicapped and lacking in capacity to sway election victory for the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The G-5 was formed after the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike lost out to Atiku Abubakar at the PDP presidential primary poll and was also not picked for the vice presidential slot ahead of the February 25 poll.

The G-5 governors led by Wike have decided not to work for Atiku until the PDP’s national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, resigns and the position taken to the South. They are Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).

Nabena said, “The new electoral law has dramatically reduced the influence of sitting governors doing magic during elections, unless the electoral umpire decides to hand over the process to them. Less-performing governors are the worst for it because the electorate won’t listen to them on election day.

“I will advise those who are still waiting on the G-5 governors to shift their attention to the real voters because they won’t be at the polling unit on the election day.”
