Why fresh graduates are not employable – ACCA

Head of ACCA Nigeria, Toyin Ademola, who spoke with Daily Trust at the venue of carrier fair organised by the professional body in Abuja, yesterday, also said many Nigerian youth do not get employment because they do not know how to seek for it.
She said there are many vacant positions in government and private establishments simply because graduates don’t have the professional wherewithal to fill them.
The ACCA boss said the higher institutions needed to ingrain professionalism in their students in order to make them employable after graduation.
She said the ACCA decided to organise the carrier fair across the country to reduce the unemployment rate, adding that it was put together to give graduates the opportunity to meet and interact one-on-one with employers of labour.
With 162,000 members, she said, ACCA is supporting over 428,000 students to develop their careers through providing professional services to them.
She said: “Our focus is on professional values, ethics and governance. We use our expertise and experience to work with governments, regulators, professional bodies and employers to develop the global accountancy profession and to act in the public interest.”
