Elders will remain in leadership positions if Nigerian youths are ignorant of the workings of politics, human rights lawyer, Professor Nnamdi Aduba, says.
“Elderly people have continued to lead in politics because the youths are taking passive interest in the affairs of this nation,” he said, adding that youth should educate themselves and “strategise on how to dislodge the elders from leadership roles.”
He stated this when he made a presentation at the “Consultative Dialogue Conference on Youths, Security and Governance: Charting The Way Forward in Plateau State.”
The event, held in Jos, weekend, was organised by the Ambassador Chris Iyama-led Centre for Youths Participation and Advocacy (CYPA.
“You must read to know,” he pointed out.
“You must be versatile and acquire skills because, one of the reasons they (elders) don’t consider you in leadership is lack of skills. You must be interested in happenings around you.”
The professor of law at the University of Jos said that the youths have shown they were not prepared for leadership because “they remained indolent and gullible to ask questions where it matters.”
