Why Dr Bichi was honoured

True to their ancestral tradition of recognizing people who served diligently and with patriotism, the people of Bichi Local Government Area in Kano State showed solidarity to one of their sons, Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the erstwhile Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) when they organized a welcome reception/rally in his honour.

They did it to welcome and appreciate him for what they termed a meritorious service to his fatherland.

From Dawanau to Bichi town, people trooped out enmasse and lined up to have a glimpse of the motorcade escorting the former TETfund Boss, the ‘home boy’ whom they believed had done them proud while serving in Abuja.

The welcome home reception which was initially planned to be low keyed, however, turned out to be a gigantic gathering of well-wishers in Bichi and environs, thereby making his return a big issue in the political circle of not only Bichi Local Government Area but, Kano State as a whole.

The mammoth crowd that greeted his triumphant entry to Bichi town was indeed a manifestation that the man is loved by his people. The town came to a stand still for this illustrious son of the soil, whose stint as the Chief Executive of TETfund has no doubt positively impacted on the lives of the people of the local government, his home state and the Nigerian nation in general.

This is the man, who served for over two years in one of the prime federal parastatal yet; he came out with a clean hand, unblemished and with excellent record of judicious utilization of the resources put under his trust.

Indeed, the likes of Dr Baffa Bichi are very rare in this our generation.

The reception which was attended by thousands of people from within and outside Bichi town in Kano State was said to have been the first of its kind ever organized in honour of a person in recent history who made them proud.

The rally lasted for several hours and it would be remembered for a long time to come.
