The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, on Thursday, explained the cause of the delay in the release of the COVID-19 test results.
Its Director-General, Chikwe Ihekweazu, at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, said: “The major factor driving the delay is not in the testing, it is in the process and from getting the result from the lab to the individual.

“We don’t want to bypass the states because the states are really the custodians of the public health response.
“What we are trying to do is we have been working on a new platform so that people would be able to check their results themselves and that platform is nearly ready.”
He said the centre was currently collaboration with relevant agencies to carry out research on the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in the country.
He said most people got their results on time, and that the NCDC was working hard to reduce the result transmission period.
He said this would be achieved through the online portal being set up to enable individuals to access their results on their own.
