The Director General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mr. Dasuki I. Arabi, said that the series of reforms in the civil service was meant to bring it in tandem with national aspirations and global dynamic developments.

He said this on Wednesday in Abuja at the maiden 2021 BPSR Annual Media Luncheon.

He commended the media for their contributions to the success of the bureau, the workings of the nation’s civil service and also national development.

“It is my strong belief that your support, understanding and cooperation in providing professional reportage of BPSR activities will help the Bureau in meeting the expectations of the Nigerian Public Service,” Arabi said.

He also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha; and the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan for their passion and enviable leadership.

Arabi said that with the collaboration with many partners, the BPSR organized induction training for Board members and CEOs of the national MDAs, to improve corporate governance and management efficiency.

He said that the trainings was also to further deepen the CEOs and Board Members understanding of new policies, processes and procedures that have been introduced into the art of governance.

He listed some of the agencies covered to include Federal Character Commission (FCC), Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC); and Nigerian Electricity Management Agency (NEMSA).

He also said that the bureau signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG) to identify areas of commonality for mutual sharing of programme between AIG and BPSR.

He said that the bureau equally developed a scorecard template which is been used to rank the proficiency of MDAs’ Websites.

“The essence of this is to ensure that websites of MDAs meet global standards that would enhance the ease of doing business and are critical to effective and efficient service delivery. This tool has been used to benchmark performance of MDAs websites and thereby changing their behavior and processes,” he said.

On some of other achievements of the BPSR, Arabi said the organization won the Public Institution FOI Best Practice award, adjudged by the organizers and the panel of judges to be the most responsive to requests for information from members of the public under the FOI act and that has adopted innovative access-friendly practices and procedures to ensure public right of access to information in Nigeria.
