Nigerians have been urged to know their state of health, and do cardiac screening when they are 40 to 50 years old in order to stay healthy and prevent sudden death.
The Chief Executive Officer of Tristate Heart and Vascular Centre, Prof. Kamar Adeleke, made this known during a facility tour of the heart centre in Babcock University, Ilisan, Ogun State.
He said many cases of sudden death could be prevented if the persons got medical help quickly, as well as knew and managed life long ailments such as high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke.
He said cardiovascular or heart disease is the number one cause of deaths in adults over the age of 30 in sub-Saharan Africa.
He said majority of people did not know about their health status and others did not get medical help early during emergency.
The interventional cardiologist, meanwhile has stressed the need for Nigerians to reduce travelling abroad for heart-related medical treatment but patronise the specialist hospitals and experts in Nigeria.
