President of the National League for the Defense of Democracy and Accountability, Prof Ahmad Tukur, has said moves to recall Senator Sahabi Ya’u (APC, Zamfara North) will fail because he is an active lawmaker and has not breached the provisions of any law.
Prof Tukur in a statement he jointly signed with the organisation’s secretary, Saidu Usman, on Friday said recalling Ya’u won’t be in the interest of the people of Zamfara State, stressing that it’s a huge joke aimed at attracting cheap political publicity.
Recall that a group called the Concerned Citizens from Zamfara North had in a statement by one Bello Shinkafi and Abubakar Sani accused the senator of poor performance in the National Assembly and called for his recall.
But Tukur and Sani in the statement warned the promoters of the “evil plot” to desist and stop distracting the lawmaker from delivering on his mandate.

The statement reads in part, “We recall that senator Ya’u sponsored the bills for the establishment of the Federal Medical Center, Kaura Namoda; Federal University of Gusau Teaching Hospital and many others.
“His constituency activities in terms of palliatives to the people of Zamfara North, entrepreneurship skills center at the federal polytechnic, Kaura-Namoda, provision of three brand new ambulances and other hospital equipment in four local government general hospitals of Zamfara North with training of over 500 unemployed youths in skill acquisitions were all done in the full glare.
“So its baffling to see a few people allow themselves to be used by political opponents for their selfish reasons. This is unacceptable. To contemplate a discussion about his recall is even an aberration and clear lack of understanding of the workings of parliament.”
