Why anti-corruption petitions fail in N/Assembly – Rep Akiolu

The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Anti-Corruption, Kayode Moshood Akiolu, has said petitions on anti-corruption fail in the National Assembly due to the nature it is presented to lawmakers.

Akiolu representing Lagos Island Federal Constituency II, Lagos State, said this on Wednesday in Abuja, at a roundtable with citizens, CSOs and parliamentarians on improved oversight of anticorruption agencies, regulators and other stakeholders.

It was organised by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), the National Chapter of Transparency International (TI) as part of the interventions of the ‘Strengthening Accountability Networks Amongst Civil Societies (SANCUS) Project in Nigeria’.

Executive Director, CISLAC and Head of TI-Nigeria, Mallam Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, said the event was to facilitate constructive discussions on the legislature’s oversight functions of anticorruption agencies, regulators and other stakeholders with regards to political integrity and political party financing issues and propose strategies to address the challenges therein, for improved performance.
