The International Day of Achievers was celebrated last month. However, there are issues surrounding who an achiever is or who should be classified as one. Daily Trust Saturday sample views of who people think is an achiever.

The person to celebrate as an achiever should be someone who has realized a great thing, useful for humanity during his life. I believe that service to humanity is the best work of life, and no matter how much wealth a person has acquired, if it does not influence lives in need, then the wealth is vanity. No matter how knowledgeable a person is, if that knowledge is not shared to help inspire others and make them find their path, it is not an achievement. I see an achiever as a person that has rendered service to humanity and pulled other humans up in the ladder of life.

The English dictionary defines an achiever as someone who succeeds in something especially in the academic performance. An achiever can be divided into two, namely: high achiever and low achiever.
An achiever is someone who is successful in their studies usually as a result of efforts. Meanwhile, a low achiever is someone who succeeds less than those around him.
Furthermore, the yardstick to be used for measuring an achiever includes accomplishments and accolades.
More so, a qualified achiever is someone who has an outstanding number of accomplishments and accolades in his area of specialization and academic discipline.
Anyone can become an achiever as long as he or she is ready to put a whole lot of effort and hard work.
Being an achiever should be the dream of every individual.

An achiever, for me, is someone who engineers positive happenings. Someone who brings positive difference everywhere they are and who is disciplined enough to actualize set goals. Achievement is much more than results actualized, it is the skills gained, it is an experience. It is the character developed, while bringing positive changes to one’s environs. The yardstick of measuring an achiever is not necessarily the success actualized, it is the effort put into work irrespective of the end result.

Achievement means different things to different people. For example, to some people Dangote is a great achiever but he ‘Dangote’ might not see it that way, he might still be working hard to have more to add up with what he has already. In life, with every stage of success you reach, the desire to excel the limit comes and the fear of others rising above you sets in. For me achievement cannot be said to have a final stage, it is just human nature; every human that has achieved his or her set goal is an achiever and should be celebrated. A person celebrated as an achiever should be someone that keeps the flag of accomplishing his goals high.

Every woman should be celebrated as an achiever. Being a woman is not an easy task. The life of a woman begins when a baby girl is conceived from the womb; every girl is birthed with millions of eggs in her. When she grows older, passes through the cramps of menstruation all most all her reproductive age. A woman meets the sexual, nutritional and even financial needs of her husband. A woman’s commitment never leaves her children. She caters for them, stands by them and words will fail me to give every detail. A woman is everything so, she should please, be celebrated as an achiever.

In my opinion, individual achievements should be measured based on personal development. These achievements could be growth in businesses, promotions in work places and acquired qualifications.
A person that is able to move from one stage to another in life to achieve a goal is an achiever, because it requires great efforts, commitment and dedication to achieve a goal in life. For me, acquiring my first degree is a great achievement, securing my dream job and rising to a top position would be a major achievement for me in life. Although, my opinions might differ from others, because some people measure their achievements based on the number of cars, clothes and houses.
