The World Health Organization (WHO) has commended the Yobe State Government for maintaining a polio-free state for the last three years, particularly in the face of the detection of polio virus in neighboring states.
The WHO country representative, Dr Alemu Wondima-Gegnehu, made the commendation yesterday during a courtesy visit to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam in Damaturu, saying the state’s optimum surveillance on communicable diseases and the functional taskforce for polio/routine immunisation put in place despite Boko Haram insurgency, helped positively in the polio eradication in the state.
In his response, the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam commended the global organisation for providing technical support for the conduct of monthly disease surveillance and capacity building of health staff.
