What’s wrong with Grace Bent?

The way and manner this senator has positively transformed the lifestyle of many of our citizens in the area of infrastructure, self and group empowerment, gaining of employments, and her effort to maintain harmony among various ethnic groups etc, are things that we would not be able to keep quiet about without urging her to keep up with the good work.  Initially, some of us elected her reluctantly having in mind our experiences with the former senators from the district. But today what she has done within her short period of service as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shows that if given further chance she will bring tremendous transformation in our constituency different from what obtains in the past. Having said this, I think it would be proper if all the elders of our various constituencies learn to extend all necessary support to our representatives to enable them succeed in their assignments. It is time we learn to shun hatred, malice and political bitterness in our engagements with each other, especially on issues that affect our national development.Senator Brent’s able representation extends beyond her constituency to the Senate where she is the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology.  In addition, she has been an active participant in debates on the floors of the Senate. It is not all accolades however because our constituency still faces some challenges which we need the senator to help address.

1. Lamurde local government is one of the most rural local governments in Adamawa State which does not even have a single boarding school to cater for the education of the less privileged members of that area.

2. It has not even a single medical doctor as the only general hospital in the area is in Numan.

3. It has no source of good water supply except for people living around the area of the Savannah Sugar company.

4. It has a very low percentage of candidates gaining admission into tertiary institutions of learning.

5. At the moment, there is no road linking some of the access points of the area from Opalo-Tingnon Kogi and Zekun-Hoki-Gyawana-Lamurde.

6.  The area is faced with natural hazards like flooding that occur annually at the banks of the River Benue.

 7. It is also faced with the hazard of birds that destroy grains during the cropping seasons.

I will finally like to reiterate my earlier plea that of us must come together and join hands to seek ways to solve some of such problems that we face in our constituencies.

Evang. Zaro Sobati is former Lamurde Community youth leader
