Anas Dauda Sadauki is the CEO and Founder, Awareness Against Terrorism, an NGO working to tackle youth restiveness and other vices through sensitisation. In this interview, Sadauki gives an insight into what he does at the organisation.

Tell us more about your background.

I was born on the 13th of March 1988 in Yalwa quarters Dala LGA of Kano State. I attended Anwaru Primary School, after which I went to Government Secondary School Dala also known as Gwammaja 1 in Kano. I graduated from Bayero University Kano (BUK) in 2012 where I read Mass Communication.

Until this appointment, what have you been doing?

This organisation focuses on educating the youth on how to stay away from terrorism and remain safe so that they can have a better life and future.

Do you think you have what it takes to drive this agency?

Our main concern is that the youth come together to save our lives because we are the leaders of tomorrow. If we don’t improve our lives, we will surely reap a bad life in the future.

As the new head of this agency, what are your plans?

Our programme has already started. We are going to remand homes (prisons for children who have committed crimes; like murder, robbery, kidnapping, and others).

We accept them and put them in schools. We will give capital and requisite material to those who are willing to start small businesses because most of them are under 18 years.

What have you done differently from what is being done?

The things we have done include going to secondary schools and talking to students on how to avoid falling into terrorism and we thank God for this, as we have recorded success. So far we have been to more than 25 schools in the North West.

In terms of job creation, how will the agency contribute to that?

Well, in terms of creating jobs, especially for young people, we have had great success because there are many young people who have been given jobs such as small skills businesses.

What is your advice to Nigerian youths on finding their progress pathways?

My advice to Nigerian youths is to stay in peace, avoid terrorism, seek education and business to build a good future.  Because in the coming few years we will be leaders.
