Wikipedia defines April Fools’ Day (also known as All Fools’ Day) as “an annual celebration in some European and Western countries commemorated on April 1 by playing practical jokes and spreading hoaxes. The jokes and their victims are called April fools.”

How is this done? People who play April fool jokes often reveal their prank by shouting “April fool” at unsuspecting victim(s). This trend had left people with unforgettable memories and stories to tell. LifeXtra wanted to know more about their stories and we got very interesting responses from people who told us about the ones they had played on people and the ones people pranked them with.

Victoria James, a student, told LifeXtra “This year April 1st 2018, a Nigerian book publishing company sent a newsletter saying ‘write a-four line poetry and stand the chance to win the sum of N20, 000’.  The newsletter directed us to the website. As a creative writer, I clicked and went to the website just to see a big graphic card saying “April Fool”. It was quite funny but at the same time not cool because I had already started constructing the poem in my head.”

Chidera Peace Okeke, a Youth Corp member, stated “Mine was in year 2016 when I received a call from my friend telling me to come to the airport to welcome him because he will arrive in less than 20 minutes. I did not know it was a trick done in April. When I got there, I called to know his location and to my greatest surprise, he shouted “APRIL FOOL” in my ear. I was really mad because I didn’t see it coming. Since then I marked April first as a yearly event to remind me.”

Relating his experience to LifeXtra, Michael Anan Onimisi, a creative writer, said “I asked a girl out, told her I loved her, she was quite surprised but she agreed that we go into a relationship. However, all was part of my April fool plan but by the end of the day, I couldn’t tell her that it was all a joke because she was happy. However on April 1st 2017, we broke up due to lack of communication.”

“I was planning to tell her that it was a prank but along the line I couldn’t and to my surprise we broke up last year same April 1st, for just a small issue.”
