The Kano State Council of Emirates has said that it has developed a series of advocacies to support government and other health-related non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in addressing health challenges affecting the state.
Dr Bashir Muhammad, Dan-Kaden Kano and Chairman, Kano State Emirates Council Committee on Health, made this known at a three-day capacity building workshop organised by the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) on advocacy for health accountability in Kano State.

He said, “We are always partnering with the state Ministry of Health, Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Hospitals Management Agency and some CSOs and NGOs, through our traditional wards structure, because we have 7,600 traditional wards.
“So our structure works right from the capitals of all the five emirates, down to the District Community Engagement Team (DICET), headed by the District Head and assisted by others.
“Then at the village level, we have the Village Community Engagement Team (VICET); at the ward level, we have the Community Women and Child Survival System, which comprises 12 people, headed by Ward Head alongside all other stakeholders.
“All the people work together to make sure people are told and taught about healthcare programmes of the state government,” he added.
The traditional ruler also said the workshop will help participants in the area of budget planning and tracking as a way of ensuring accountability in the health sector.
Earlier, the Project Director of Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, Dr Rahila Mukhtar, said the workshop would build the capacity of existing health-based CSOs on health budget tracking.
Daily Trust reports that the workshop participants were drawn from existing health platforms in the state, traditional rulers and the media.
