Wife of Cross River State governor, Dr Linda Ayade has disclosed that the state has strong desire to eliminate tetanus from the state.
Ayade who is the President of Mediatrix Development Foundation, said this while she flagged-off the Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Elimination (MNTE) vaccination campaign to eliminate maternal neonatal tetanus disease from the State.
She called women to take advantage of vaccination exercise to protect their babies from tetanus, warning that mothers could be infected during unsafe and unhygienic delivery of their babies.
She said immunization is the key to the prevention of Tetanus disease in Nigeria, while raising awareness on the dangers of neonatal tetanus.
Ayade called on every girl and woman of child bearing age to benefit from the exercise.
Dr Ayade had preformed the administration of the first immunisation to babies
She also flagged off the world breastfeeding week, encouraging mothers to breastfeed exclusively for 6 months and continuously for one to two years as it helps in proper development of the child’s brain and immune system. It also helps bonding and prevent breast cancer.
