We’ve reached more remote areas than others – LP

The Labour Party (LP) in Edo State has said the party is confident of victory in the September 11 polls because its governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, has reached remote areas in the state where other parties have not, garnering significant support from the people.

The spokesperson of the party, Sam Uroupa, in a chat with Daily Trust, said apart from reaching more remote areas, the party’s candidate’s personality made him a more appealing choice for Edo people.

“Akpata is a candidate without blemish and does not have to navigate the complex political relationships that burden the PDP and APC candidates. He will not use state funds to settle political debts or fight political battles. His record is clean,” Uroupa added.

Uroupa also cited Akpata’s tenure as Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), where he left N1.5 billion in the NBA’s account, highlighting that no Edo governor has ever left money in state coffers after an eight-year term.

He criticised the PDP and APC for failing to impact the state effectively over their combined 25-year governance. Uroupa said voters are eager for change and see the Labour Party as a viable alternative.

“The electorate has noticed the progress in Abia State under Governor Alex Otti. The transformation in Aba has showcased Labour as a model of effective governance. Voters in Edo State want Bar Olumide Akpata to bring a similar transformation,” he said.
