Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has alleged that there are fake voters register in the state and urged INEC to rise to the occasion.
He further alleged that one of the fake registered voters card had a picture of a Nigerian terrorist convicted in the United States, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.
Speaking during a visit by the United States’ Consul General in Lagos, Mr. F. John Bray, Oshiomhole said he was shocked when he saw the portrait of Abdulmutallab in the fake register, whose bearer had a Benin name.
Abdulmutallab was convicted for attempting to detonate explosives hidden in his underwear onboard an airline from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan, on December 25, 2009.
Governor Oshiomhole, who raised concerns over what he described as “duplication of the voters register by INEC” said the foundation for credible election is the voters register.
“Once the voter’s register is manipulated, then you have problems. Right now, we have evidence of two versions of voters register – the one they officially distributed and the one that some elements within the ICT in INEC also produced in Abuja.”
He alleged that “INEC wants to re-enact what they did in the past, by displaying one voters register which is reasonably accurate, while they also have a fake one which they intend to bring and spring a surprise in certain locations.”
