The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WASCI) has formally launched an office in the country called ‘Node’, to strengthen the activities of the Nigeria Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
Speaking during the launching on Wednesday in Abuja, the Executive Director of WASCI, Nana Afadzinu, said, “Looking at their institution, governance, management, and operation and at the same time looking at the environment that they are working in, issues that they are engaged in and how to make sure that they have knowledge capacity to engage those issues and as well as resources and how to build on resources and structures to support them with.
“We are happy to be here in Nigeria here today because this country is gifted with a high level of local philanthropists like the high net worth of individuals, organizations, and with upcoming social entrepreneurs who are ready to support their development with their work and their resources.”
On the politicization of CSOs in Nigeria, she explained that, “When we talk about the politicization of civil society organizations, it does not mean party and politics, but the awareness citizens need to politically stand and have a voice to speak about what is important to them and also to participate in their governance and development.”
