We’re putting structures in place for community policing – Ciroma

The FCT Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma, said the command has started putting structures in place for the smooth take-off of community policing in the territory.

Ciroma, while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Monday said state and local advisory committees and the community policing committee at the divisional level had been set up.

He said the command has started compiling names of credible volunteers, who would be trained to gather intelligence for the police at the community level.

“We want to create a situation whereby we bring all stakeholders onboard so that we can work together and ensure that we identify and tame any form of crime in the territory,” he said.

Ciroma, while also commenting on incessant cases of kidnapping, especially in Abaji, said most of the incidents were as a result of the council sharing boundaries with Kogi and Nasarawa states.

He said kidnappers mostly come from the two neighbouring states and strike, even as he said the command is collaborating with locals in the area to tackle incidences of kidnapping.

The police commissioner also said the command had been able to tame activities of ‘one chance’ syndicates in the territory.
