The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has distanced itself from inter party negotiations and conclusions reached by Senator Iyiola Omisore, its Osun State governorship candidate.
The SDP, in a statement issued yesterday night, through its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Alfa Mohammed, voiced commitment to serving the Nigerian people.
“The Social Democratic Party (SDP) would like to make it categorically clear that the National Leadership of the party was not part of the recent developments involving our party’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore of Osun State, and the conclusions arrived at.
“We remain irrevocably committed to serving the Nigerian people on the basis of the vision, principles and goals of social democracy which underline the philosophy of our great party, the SDP,” Mohammed also said.
Similarly, the National Chairman of the party Chief Olu Falae said he was not consulted before the candidate of the party in the gubernatorial election in Osun State, took the decision to work for the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola to win the rerun election.
Falae said: “I’m not aware of the decision of Senator Omisore to work for APC in the rerun election in Osun state and form a coalition government with the APC after the election.
“I was not consulted by Omisore before he took the decision. Therefore, the SDP is not involved in such coalition.”
Omisore was reported to have expressed readiness to support the APC candidate, Alhaji Isiaka Oyetola, in today’s governorship rerun election in few polling units.
