Imo State Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Sunday Aroni, has lamented that the permanent orientation camp has been plunged into darkness following the vandalization of its transformer and other equipment.
Speaking at the official closing ceremony of orientation course for the Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state at the Orientation Camp in Eziama Obaire in Nkwerre Local Government area, the coordinator said the incident, which took place early this year, had cut the camp off from the national grid.
He said the situation had made the authorities to run constantly on power generator, with its attendant high cost of maintenance and fuelling.
Aroni said, “Because of the vandalisation of the camp since early this year, we are forced to resort to generating set and this situation is at a great cost to us. We therefore appeal to the state government to come to our aid by fixing the transformer.”
While commending the staff and camp officials for putting up spiritedly despite the daunting challenges, Aroni urged corps members to put into practice what they had learnt during the orientation programme.
Governor Rochas Okorocha, who was represented by the Commissioner for Talent and Youth Development, Ifeanyichukwu Onwueyiagba, urged the corps members to shun truancy and avoid unnecessary travels.
Onwueyiagba urged them to shun bribery and get-rich syndrome.
