Women Environmental Programme (WEP), a Nigeria-based international non-governmental organisation, in partnership with Murna Foundation, has commenced a two-year intervention on preventing violent extremism in an effort to bring relief to communities experiencing violence in Katsina State.

Speaking during the official launching of the project, the Global President of WEP, Dr Priscilla Achakpa, said the project had the blessing of the office of National Security Adviser as it had drawn its backing from the Nigeria Policy Framework and National Action Plan on Prevention and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) components 1, 3 and 4.

She said the objectives of the project, tagged “Strengthening Advocacy against Violent Extremism, (SAVE)” include among others, to build the resilience of the target beneficiaries for recovery and return to normalcy.

The project has funding from the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) and will be carried out across four Local Government Areas in the state, which include Dutsin-Ma, Funtua, Jibia and Musawa.

 It was officially launched on Friday in Katsina by the Secretary to Katsina State Government who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Muhamad Daura.
