We’ll revoke poorly executed contracts, Plateau warns

The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has threatened to cancel contracts for the construction and renovation of classrooms in junior secondary and public primary schools across the state if they are found to be of substandard.

The board disclosed this yesterday during the flag off for contract awards for classroom construction and renovation projects.

The event, which took place at the SUBEB office in Jos, focused on contracts awarded through the National Competitive Bidding process for the third and fourth quarters of 2021, as well as the first to fourth quarters of 2022.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the board, Sunday Samuel Amuna, represented by the Permanent Secretary 1, Chundung Shom, emphasised that contracts would be revoked for contractors who delivered substandard work.

He stressed the importance of maintaining high quality in construction and renovation projects.

Augustina Sanchi, the state’s Coordinator of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), echoed the importance of quality work, reminding contractors that the schools’ facilities were for the benefit of the children, and urged them to adhere strictly to the specifications outlined in the contract agreements.
