We’ll provide protection, food security, others to IDPs – Refugees commission

Top officials of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) on Thursday met in Abuja, to brainstorm on how best to expend its allocation in the 2024 budget.

Addressing newsmen during the one-day seminar, the federal commissioner/Chief executive officer of the Commission, Aliyu Tijani Ahmed, said part of the allocation would be used to guarantee food security and protection of the IDPs among other services.

Aliyu said the Commission has resolved to ensure that each and every step, procedures and due process were taken to prepare its staff for the task of delivering on its mandate, as part of efforts to implement President Tinubu’s ‘renewed hope’ agenda for the country.

He said, “Let the IDPs be sincere and peaceful. The commission as directed by Mr President will do anything humanly possible to give them the services required. We will also give them protection, and food security.”

Speaking on the essence of the seminar, Ahmed said, “Sometime in December, His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, submitted a budget of ‘renewed hope’ and the commission is part of the beneficiaries of this budget.

“And if actually we are going to benefit from this budget, then how are we ready when our own portion of the budget is being made public? What arrangement have we made so far to ensure that we expend this money according to the provisions of this budget? The only way we can do that is to enhance the knowledge of our people in the service of the commission.

“So we organised this seminar so that we can brainstorm; so that we can see how ready we are, because any moment from now, this budget will be unveiled.

“The commission is well-captured and we thank Mr. President for looking into our plight to a large extent. I think most of our requirements have been captured in the budget to ensure that we diligently follow due process to expend this money.”
