We’ll disappoint those calling us rubber stamp — Reps

Those calling the National Assembly a rubber stamp of the executive arm of government would soon be disappointed, the chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Okezie Kalu (APC, Abia) has said.

Kalu, while addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, said the 9th assembly will disappoint the people who call them “rubber stamp” assembly as a result of the speedy passage of the 2020 budget and the Finance Bill brought by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said the National Assembly would pursue its constitutional functions with vigour to actualise the implementation of the budget as well as its oversight functions.

He said the early passage of the budget and Finance Bill were some of the good things that happened to the lives of Nigerians through the 9th assembly.

He noted that contrary to the notion that the bill was aimed at adding a burden on Nigerians, it would instead create a more vibrant and fair economic environment which eliminated earlier bottlenecks.
