Top chieftains of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) that joined the party in May with former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, have said they will remain in the party and ensure its success at the 2023 general elections.
Speaking after a meeting in Kano on Tuesday, Haruna Isah Dederi (lawmaker representing Karaye/Rogo federal constituency), who spoke on behalf of the group, said they met and resolved, among other things, to restate their resolve to remain in NNPP with unsealing loyalty to the party leader and presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

They admitted the meeting was in view of the recent development which saw Shekarau defect from the party to PDP which, they said, necessitated that they clarified that they were not with Shekarau.
Those at the meeting included a former legislative aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Kawu Sumaila; spokesman for Kwankwaso campaign organisation, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa; and a former speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Alhassan Rurum, who is also a federal lawmaker for Rano/Bunkure.
Also at the meeting were the gubernatorial candidate of the NNPP in Kano, Abba Yusuf and his running mate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, as well as a former commissioner for Budget and Planning in Kano, Nura Ibrahim Dankadai.
Speaking earlier, Kawu Sumaila reiterated their support for Kwankwaso, Abba Yusuf and all other candidates of the NNPP for the forthcoming elections.
