We will make Nigeria food sufficient, agricultural research hub- CONTEC

The Chairman of CONTEC, the parent body of CONTEC Global Agro Limited, Dr. Benoy Berry, has said the agro-allied outlet was committed to making the nation food sufficient and an agricultural research hub in Africa.

He disclosed this on Thursday when the Malaysian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Datuk Lim Juay Jin paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

Berry said the company had developed and deployed affordable bio-fertilizers; bio-insecticide, soil biological conditioners and similar innovations intended to reinvent farming cultures through improved soil fertility and improved production of crops and livestock.

Giving details on some of the products, Dr. Berry said, "we have the Siri GA, a biological granular formulation (bio-fertilizer) that is developed to enhance root growth in density and spread, enhance nutrient and water uptake, build resistance against insects, pests and diseases, helps the crop withstand stress from temperature and physiological changes. The ultimate being improved quality and yield volume.”

He also spoke on the bio-stimulants and organic soil conditioners.

“Sweed GA is an organic liquid preparation formulated to help the plant enhance its growth and floral initiation, induce resistance against pests and diseases, promote new roots and leaves development and growth”.

Berry who further revealed that the technological innovations have spanned two decades now, disclosed plans to set up bio-fertilizers outlets in all 36 states of the federation as part of its efforts to sensitize the rural farmers on the benefits of the innovations.

"we are working hard to set up bio-fertilizer outlets in all 36 states of the federation as part of our efforts to reach out to the local farmers in the country” he said.

The Malaysian Envoy who was led on a familiarization tour to all sections of the company said the innovation is an eye-opener with huge potentials of revamping the agricultural sector of the country and optimally derive the country’s diversification agenda.

He said the palm oil production in the country is about to receive a boost as partnership between Malaysian government and Nigeria in this area are underway.

Datuk who commended CONTEC for such laudable agricultural innovations noted that partnership with government is key to the success of such laudable project.
