The new Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu has expressed his determination to work with all stakeholders to deliver on the mandate given to him and make President Muhammadu Buhari and “every Nigerian happy”.

Engr. Aliyu spoke with State House reporters after a meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

The minister, who said he was in the villa to brief the president about his resumption at the new ministry, stated that all Nigerians were looking up to the ministry of power to impact their lives and means of livelihood positively.

He also expressed his intention to work with every stakeholder in the power sector to add value to what was on the ground.

He said: “As you are all aware, I was posted last week. I resumed yesterday (Monday).  Last week, when I was posted to the Ministry of Power to take over as a new Minister of Power, I was observing the one-week quarantine because I had an overseas journey. I came back last Monday. So, I was at home until yesterday (Monday). I resumed work at the Ministry of Power as the new Minister of power. I came here this evening to brief Mr President, President Muhammadu Buhari, that I have resumed work. And I have started receiving briefings yesterday from the staff of the ministry.

“And subsequently, I will extend it to other areas of the ministry, that is to say, the Gencos, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), then the DISCOs.

“So, after I finish receiving the briefing from all the stakeholders in the ministry, and the ministry staff, then we’ll have a session with you. So, I will tell you what I have found there, and what I intend to do with it, and I need all your support and prayers.”

Asked whether he received words of encouragement from the president, he said: “Of course, by upgrading me from Minister of State to a full-blown Minister of the Federal Republic and posting me to where everyone has a concern because the ministry of power is where I believe you all look up to. Every Nigerian is looking up to the ministry of power to impact his life and his means of livelihood.

“So, by that confidence that the president reposed in me, I don’t think there is any better word, they say action speaks louder than words. So, I will try my best with all those that are involved to ensure that we deliver and make the president happy and make every Nigerian happy Insha Allah.”
