Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, Minister of Steel Development, has said that the federal government is planning to start producing military hardware at Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited.
Audu stated this while speaking on his ministry’s plan on the company during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.
He said that the ministry had got an approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to source money locally to kick start production.
The minister added that the steel company can generate billions of naira in revenue for Nigeria.

Audu said, “Part of what we do in Ajaokuta is that we want to produce military hardware. I have been working closely with the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar and the Minister of Works, Senator Umahi, to work hand-in-hand to produce iron rod in Ajaokuta and to build military hardware capability; whether it’s helmet, bullets, base, tanks or ships. We have the capacity to produce all of this.
“Once we raise money and start on a small scale and show improvement of concept, then we can ramp up. For the military hardware we are going to start the engineering workshop to get Ajaokuta back on track, then we can design and build things on military hardware.”
