We thought PDP would rule forever –Party chieftain

Former Deputy National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, has said that when the PDP was formed, they thought the party would rule forever.

Agbo stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday, while discussing the mechanism the party is putting in place to resolve its internal crisis.

Governors elected under PDP held a critical meeting Tuesday night to address internal conflicts that have plagued the party in recent months.

The governors discussed the issue surrounding the acting national chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, whose position has caused a split within the party and the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

But during the interview, Agbo said that the reconciliation committee of the party would invite aggrieved members, saying all of them would attend the meeting.

He said, “The mechanism is working. We saw the worst. We got two secretariats before. How can you say this is the worst. We now maintain one secretariat. We had policemen and soldiers guarding the office before.

“Let me tell you this, when you are in a position especially when you have never structured for opposition; when PDP was formed 1998 and took up governance. We were so settled that we are going to rule forever; but nothing is forever.

“We did our best. For  16 years remember where we took the county to. All of a sudden, Nigerians fell for change but where is the change? Some of us have to be blamed for that.”
