Residents complained of staying up to 10 days without power supply, a situation they said has retarded economic development of the community.
A resident, Sule Yusuf, explained: “When they bring the light, some will have and some will not. You will see some houses with light and you will be wondering why some don’t have and this is when we are even lucky to have at all.”
Yusuf decried the bills sent to residents despite the epileptic nature of the power supply on monthly basis, saying: “Whether we use light or not, bills must come. Why billing us when we spend about 10 days or more without light in a month? ”
Meanwhile, another resident, Garba Haruna, said he could not explain why the community was facing the problem, adding that it may not be unconnected to a problem in the transformer.
He said the transformer in the community developed a problem due to population explosion.
“Many people have moved here. More squatters are establishing settlements here. This place is very close to Gwagwalada and some of the people there are coming here to build house. Some build to rent them. So, we need more transformers.”
While calling on relevant authorities to help the community fix the power challenge, he said many people use generators to meet their power needs.
“To use generator is expensive. Fuel is expensive. Consider barbers and other business owners who rely on power supply to thrive, how much fuel would they buy in a day?’’ he asked.
