Yola who spoke to journalists shortly after his side was forced to a 2-2 draw by the home-based Super Eagles at the Abuja National Stadium, explained that the state government’s heavy investment on the team was the prize that was paid to win the league title back to back.
“We paid heavily to win the league, we took care of our players’ welfare and that is the key issue. We did not pay any individual; we did not pay any referee or match commissioner or other officials other than investing heavily on the team.
We increased their winning bonuses, even when they do not win we pay them match bonuses because when they record a draw sometime I approve they pay them winning bonus, even when they win at home, we give them the bonus for away win, these are the kind of things we have been doing. No State invested on their teams compared to what we did in Kano.
The State government invested much on the team, we don’t owe anybody, we have given them their sign-on fees, their salaries comes monthly without any delay or problems, their bonuses come as when due, this is the investment we made, that is why we are reaping the benefit of the investment,” Yola explained.
